She's Gone

She’s gone! Did no-one see her slip away? Nor take her tiny hand and bid her stay? No soul, her coy, cerulean eyes behold None catch a glimpse of silky locks of gold? Did no-one miss her sweet contagious smile Or hear her sing and turn to pause a while? How could a child so gentle and pristine Be snatched away and never more be seen? Enough of sweet nostalgia’s luring sway; My little girl was never meant to stay. The child has disappeared, but in God’s grace, A woman of great worth now takes her place. When I first started reading this, I thought the child disappeared so no one could find her. A very touching image of a mother trying to let go of her daughter once she is grown, Wendy. Congratulations on a second place in the contest! Best wishes, Carolyn

I had to come back and visit this lovely verse knowing your daughter is crossing over a life-changing threshhold this month. You as her Mum must feel both pleased as punch and a bit lonely that the little girl is but a memory in the past. I still feel that way about Rebecca, and her third anniversary is coming in November. God is good.

Congratulations on your daughter's engagement Wendy (and your win, too)! My daughter is 28 now and this poem describes her to a T, down to the eye and hair color, and the great worth that God has implanted in her. Love this, a fav for me ~ John

That's very kind of you, Stenila! It was inspired by an old photo of my lovely daughter so carefree on her garden swing!

Beautifully penned, turning lemons (She's Gone!) into lemonades (replaced by a woman of great worth). Nicely done Wendy! ~ Gershon

Thank you so much for your encouragement, Gershon. I had never composed poems before joining this site, a few weeks back so feedback is so appreciated. This poem was inspired by an old photo of my beautiful carefree daughter on a swing with such a carefree, joyful smile on her face!
