Shelter From the Storm

Inspired by Bob Dylan's Song: Shelter From the Storm The world offered him pleasures his heart could not resist He needed some salvation yet his vices did persist He had to find some shelter Shelter from the storm He went to see the preacher, to listen to the word But the preacher's pocket was full of cash while he paid the toll and the sermon was too shallow To save a sinner's soul He saw the faces of addiction, how badly lives were torn Were they hopeless cases worthy of our scorn Or were they using drugs To find shelter from their storms? Then he opened up his bible to find a verse to hold As he read the stories of prophecies of old Then he heard a voice within that made him feel quite warm The voice was simply saying "I'll give you shelter from the storm"

I love this song, the whole Blood on the Tracks album, and just about everything Bob has done. I enjoyed your poem. I wonder if I've ever found shelter from the storm.

Is this for the Dylan Song Tribute? I listened to his music repeatedly yet all that comes to mind is 'everybody must get stoned' and a line about 'a siamese cat'. I like your write though I cannot recall the song. I guess artist/song contests really took off while I was gone. There are 2 now where I don't recognize the artist. You put a lot into this and shows ... CayCay

Yes, God is the one who gives us shelter from all storms, if we walk in His path and obey His commands. There are mercenary preachers. We should flee from them. A well crafted poem.

Your interpretation is astounding. Great thoughts. The gospels are a source of comfort for me.

Hello Joe, O' such honesty and compassion, echoing Dylan’s spirit while making it your own. I felt the ache for redemption and the search for something real amidst life’s storms. Your lines about addiction and shallow sermons are powerful, but it’s the quiet hope at the end that lingers. Spring Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

I find much solace, comfort and hope by reading the Bible too. Forty plus years now

How wonderful, Joe! Seems his heart was searching and it wasn’t until his eyes fell on the open book, where salvation took! Those words have life and power!
