Author's Notes: "Shelley--Romantic Visionary" is a Double Dactyl formatted write that I wrote as a tribute to Percy Bysshe Shelley as one of the great Romantic poets and one of the very best lyric and epic poets as celebrated in the English language. Shelley was also a friend and contemporary of the renown Lord George Gordon Byron, another great English Romantic poet who died two years after Shelley did in 1824. Shelley wrote some quite memorable classical poems, to wit: Ozymandias, Ode to the West Wind, and The Masque of Anarchy--to name a few. And some of his famous romantic visionary poems included: Alastor, Adonais, and Prometheus Unbound. For this Double Dactyl write on Shelley, I chose to center my efforts on "Epipsychidion," which was one of his major poetical works published in 1821. It is a quite enchanting poem whose theme is a "meditation" on the nature of ideal love. This poem fit perfectly with some key aspects I wanted to highlight for this Double Dactyl write from Shelley's "Three Sermons on Free Love" and "The Annihilation of Love" as part of this classical 604-line poem. Like Lord Byron, Shelley died a young man who was barely one month from his 30th birthday. Unlike Lord Byron though, Shelley's acknowledged poetical fame did not come during his lifetime, but do so gradually over the years after his death. (Gary Bateman - August 5, 2015) (Double Dactyl)
