The subject matter below represents something I've noticed my entire life. Most people find this too difficult to ponder. Though everything ends at some point, why rush it?

The attached video (previously posted) provides information regarding negative externalities (an economic term). Since we have not taxed the producers or users of manufactured products to cover the negative effects of production and usage, we and the planet will incur ever-increasing debt-like consequences. As the destruction and contamination of the environment gets more extensive, there will come a point where a collapse of the natural order occurs. Up to this point, nature has provided us with a bail out.

Any of the following items could trigger a catastrophic event: war, crop failure or starvation, disease, significant climate change, rapid non-human species extinction on land or in the oceans, etc. The possibilities become more numerous as we misuse resources and accumulate more environmental debt. Making America Great Again and following the blueprint of project 2025 actually make the problem worse. It’s been fun up to now!

Whoa! toxic compounds really flow Who knew this Earth was not a ho? When with her we toyed Her life got destroyed And oh no! we’ll reap what we sow Humans are the planet’s riffraff Our trash ordains an epitaph This green world seemed sweet Now smashed and not neat So who's not the wheat but the chaff?

Well put limerick Duke that seems to touch all the bases of climate, human nature, corporate culture, and nature. So much said, but I think a basic news watcher may not notice the amount of rhetoric and propaganda pumped out to make our minds up for us. I wonder if we felt the same way(that we're riffraff before the 1970s, for example, when the top dogs of the oil cartels started warning about how humans are harming the planet. May they have an agenda not noticed by news watchers?

David, you bring up a valid point...who determines what the news and information flow will be and what purpose does that serve? For that reason it's important to understand sources, seek a variety of them, and apply critical thinking and analysis to make sense of it all. Personally, I tend to go with peer-reviewed scientific research on environmental matters. There's not much discussion about negative externalities in the media....but we can try to expose people to what this all means as best we can.

Nette, this is the essence of our existence. We have economic rules that determine profits and losses, but we're interacting with Mother Nature in all of this and ignoring our impact on her. This doesn't end well if left as is. My take is that the laws of economics are a subset of the laws of nature. We are not looking at this in a particularly rational or smart way. BTW, I've read some of your recent work. You have a wonderful way of looking at the beauty of our living planet! Smiles!!

So clever and wow yes humans have ruined her - we are the trash and riffraf, we have no one else to blame except ourselves, for each one of us can hold up a placard and say 'I'M ALSO TO BLAME' no human is innocent, perhaps in the last 10 years some have gone green, but too little too late she cried. I LOVE your clever writes! Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Thanks Jennifer...yes we are all involved in this ruination/degradation. Of course, we would all change immediately if we had to pay the real costs of things that included the real environmental impact. There needs to be an assignment of externalities to everything, and that is not a simple concept because corporations and those profiting don't like the idea they might not be so rich in the short term. Smiles!!

It’s not too difficult to ponder—it’s terrifying to ponder, but it’s needed. Valuable message, valuable vids .A wake up call. Will we ever wake up? I like this one. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully it will be the universal priority someday - anticipating how things play out. Always, Laura

Thanks Laura, time is of the essence. This is indeed serious stuff that people would rather not face as it means changing the way we live...it's not too difficult if we focus on spirit rather than possessions. That's difficult in this culture of owning things and spending. Smiles!!

Anaya, unfortunately they are everywhere and in just about everything. It's hard to contemplate since it's so under the radar. Recycling is a very good thing...imagine if companies really had to take back their used products and recycle them legitimately. Our society as it is might come to a halt, but we would all survive it. The path we are on...I'm uncertain. Smiles!!

Dear Duke, Your great limerick poem is about the environmental implications of human behavior, as well as the concept of "negative externalities" in economics. It warns of an approaching ecological collapse caused by the irresponsible exploitation of natural resources, underlining that humanity will eventually face the consequences of its destructive actions. The poem also discusses environmental degradation, climate change, pollution, and the irresponsibility of human actions that cause ecological damage. It conveys a sense of urgency and foreboding about potential catastrophic outcomes resulting from this ongoing exploitation. The language is harsh and vivid, with a mix of casual and serious tones that express the gravity of the situation as well as irony. Phrases such as "toxic compounds," "riffraff," and "ordains an epitaph" provide a sharp condemnation of human environmental carelessness.

SP, thanks for this comment. I enjoyed writing these and citing proverbs for the endings. Seems like our leaders would like to deny where we're headed. There are a lot of very smart people who know what we need to do to fix the situation we're in, but it would ruffle a few feathers and might cost some of our richest citizens and corporations a lot of money. When I go to college reunions, I make it a point to talk to professors in the Earth Sciences, and they are not optimistic. Nevertheless, if we had leaders who could explain this simply and directly, I think we could reverse the situation. We'd have to reform our economic accounting rules! Smiles!

IE, thanks for reading and commenting with such empathy. We're all in trouble but most of us choose to put our head in the sand. I'm well...for some strange reason I've developed a long-lasting sense of wellness. I think some of it has to do with being able to read poetry here and interact with kind and thoughtful people in different places and who focus on different styles and outlooks. It's really a privilege to gain an insight to how we all live and breathe.

For sure we are not being great stewards of the world God gave us. It's very sad to see even the oceans so polluted and fish dying being trapped by plastics.

Thanks Andrea, yes it's all based on the lie of corporate balance sheets that show huge profits based on "free" or "unrecognized" environmental destruction. Turns out other species and we all pay at some point for all that occurs. There is no away with garbage...and we all share the same air and water molecules. This requires a global solution. Smiles!!

Fallen mankind continues to both produce the mire as well as wallow in it. I think we'd all shudder if we knew how much gunk has made its way into our bodies and made a permanent home there. I read something recently about micro plastics accumulating in our brains. Only divine intervention can save us at this point

Hi Tom, micro plastics represent a considerable accumulated toxin that has yet to be accounted for on any financial statement I've seen, and that's just one among how many? I'm inclined to think you are right...we may not understand what's happening until nature takes its revenge or someone starts using nukes, etc. If we can understand the cosmetological history of this planet, we should realize we haven't been here forever and will not be here forever. However, I'd prefer that humans and our descendants enjoy the life experience for a while. It can be so much fun! We don't need to rush to the cliff. Smiles and thanks!

Hello Duke, Man, right on for this one hits hard! A sharp, witty gut-punch of truth wrapped in tight, rhythmic lines. I liked how you blended humor and warning together so seamlessly, it makes me smile and wince at the same time. Brilliant work, my friend. Sad but true and I stand right beside you! Winter Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Daniel, thanks for reading and for holding the views you do. It's all very hard to watch this. We can try to be eco-smart in our own lives, but what a huge battle faces us all. Hope you are well and sending you smiles!!

Tom, funny how some of us know. The video mentions four ways to deal with this issue…1 taxation, 2 environmental policy, 3 innovation grants, & 4 eco fees. Our brilliant leader is eliminating all of these. What an idiot. His initials DJT should be DDT. He’s toxic poison.
