Share Not

When I go out to dinner, I do not want to share. I don’t care what is on your plate; I don’t want to compare. I scan the menu up and down And then make my selection. When it arrives, it’s meant for me And not for your inspection. “You want to taste my fish?” I’m asked. Some people never learn; For then the expectation is To taste mine in return. And so the answer’s always No! Yet comments never cease. “Your fries look really good!” They are, So let me eat in peace! Each morsel on my dish is mine And I intend to finish. Perhaps my attitude will make Your thoughts of me diminish. I’m sorry if that is the case – Dessert I’ll split just fine; But when the meal’s delivered – You eat yours and I’ll eat mine!

I totally relate to this excellent piece Ilene. I am always telling my kids if they want what I have on my plate I will order it for them, but stop reaching across the table with a fork, often without asking, for some of mine! I tell them that it is rude behavior. Great write! 7

Gave it top billing, Ilene. What a picture you painted in my mind, as I read this poem. Great composition! I love your natural way of rhyming, very smooth!

Well done. I enjoyed the uncommon theme, the forward motion that leads to a solid conclusion, and the apt, non-trite rhymes. The audience can feel the exasperation and sympathizes with it; the rhyme structure gives it a whimsical and enjoyable feel, lightening the mood somewhat.

You tell 'em pie face, you've goth the crust. I feel that way too, forks going across the table isn't my idea of a good time!

Yes some never learn! A funny write, Ilene. I'm like you, I don't mind sharing dessert. I guess with the main dish, it depends on how hungry I am! Thanks for the laugh tonight. Blessings, Rhonda
