Shamrock Reflections

Roads rising up from Irish mists in merry jigs To the flowing tenor song Sung by the River Boyne born from Tara's Keep As Patrick's paschal fire Weaves truth from stones of blarney And lucky charms of Erin's spring Cloth hills in kilts of green clovers with four leaves To the Kerry pipers wail of jigs and tiompan reels When soft sunbeams kiss fields - the wind petals Of Killarney's rose in Londonderry Airs Born in fifes and fiddles in soft brogues Delighting in tea and scones - the clairsel harp - When clear cut crystal rays Embrace green fields clothed in sheep - Faire mischief - the wind dance of the Kells - In bohdran thunder to banish banshee cries As pirate queens and lost chieftain kings Sail from emerald shores Until they meet again beneath the blessings Of the Celtic cross In the north winds of the fair aran island. 3-23-22 Contest: Form J Sponsor: Constance La France

If there is one country my husband and I would love to hire a car and tour, it would be Ireland. it looks so beautiful and has such history - your poem is sentimental and displays the love you have in your heart for your land. We would love to visit your pubs and live out in the country for a short while. Beautiful poem dear friend, and i missed you got POTD unforgivable on my part. Congratulations. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer

Connie, thank you! Knowing that we share an Irish heritage is such fun! Not sure if I mentioned it but have found my maiden name goes back to at least the 500's - maybe earlier - in Ireland. Your message this morning was like sunshine on a gloomy day! I am so happy that this poem lifted your heart. Bail o' Dhia ort - blessings of God be with you dear friend!

David, many thanks coming your way. I was hoping to highlight the spirit of Ireland in this poem. This little country has gone through so much struggle, pain and loss yet the spirit of the Irish people remains undeterred with amazing resiliency and determination. I am so amazed at the Irish influence on music, dance, culture, and literature that they seem to carry with them wherever they go. Truly may the roads rise up to meet you!

Top o' the morning to ye, may the road rise up to meet you, O Danny Boy, and a whole host of other Irish sayings. Loving your ode to all things Irish, "Embrace green fields clothed in sheep" especially. Hope you read this to Paddy and got an affirming bark. May your heart be light and happy for the lovely POTD tip o' the hat. I raise a glass of Guinness to your success. Vernal blessings, my friend.

Ah faith and begorrah laddie! As always your "Celtic ken" reaches far into the depths of the elements of this "ode" - the music, culture, history, dance, scenery, humor and "sayings" of this green isle! My heart is doing a little jig of thankfulness! I share a wee dram of Jamisons with you as we trip on down the road singing Danny Boy! May the roads rise up to meet you (at the ballpark) may God hold you in the hollow of His hand (as we watch the ball sail over the bleachers)! Blessings - no blarney!
