Shades of Poe , Speaketh

Shades of Poe , Speaketh Shades of Poe oft run in my veins dark, dirty little splashing stains No Raven stirs my battered heart nor any signs on my astrology chart Dark mysteries seep in at night shadowed beings birthing fright Muffled sounds sent to alarm evil crying to scare and harm Then my soul cries out to Poe help me now , for you must know Remedy for this sad affliction a spell to give quick eviction Reply creeps slowly back to me close your eyes to sadly see Darkness that drives men mad such my heart and soul once had No cure can by me be so gifted you need Light to be so uplifted My words are my aid little as is answer you seek can only be His Son of Light only can save you my darkness left me only that clue! Robert J. Lindley 10-12-2014 note: Tis' the month the Dark spreads its evil mists to kids tucked in beds, scary voices crying muffled shouts, battles and shadowed little bouts, goblins, ghouls and witches now abound imagine such and they are then found!

This is something I would read at a Halloween party to scare folks. :) Very gripping piece, my man!

A Poe-esque piece of evangelism, Robert, and true to his style. And that footnote should, if there was any justice, become a Halloween staple, on a par with 'Twas the night before Christmas...' I strongly suggest that you get that footnote rigged for flight, Robert. Regards, Viv

Yes, may get around to that my friend. Had intended on working it into a poem but like so many fragments never seem to get around to it. I must have at least two hundred fragments laying around here right now.

Poe truly represents Halloween more to me than any other poet. His writings are dark and somber.

Thanks to all for the comments. Poe is the poet that got me interested in poetry. Years later I found the incarnation of my Muse in the poetry of Frank. L. Stanton... A few dozen other great poets inspire me but none more than the writes of Poe and Stanton.

Robert . . . Only the surcease of sorrow for the lost Lenore, can bring our collective souls back in score, and fellow the philosophical and metaphysical pain that Edgar Allan Poe must have felt. Poe too influenced me too tremendously. An obvious "7" and a "FAV" here for me. Keep doing all of the writing and wonderfully difficult things you are doing. I tip my hat to you Sir!! With Kindest Regards, Gary

I agree with Arthur's comment. I don't think that I would be writing now, if it weren't for Poe. I became interested in poetry because of him.... You have written a wonderful tribute here. There are numerous shades of Poe in you, my friend!.... This has to be a fav for me!

Your notes even rhyme! Darkness and fear meet the light. Well done. Poe would enjoy this poe-try.

Excellent shades of Poe, Robert...even the rhyming footnote is great. The spirits of darkness are powerful, but the Son of light is superior to them all. // paul
