Shades of Gray

SHADES OF GRAY A gray wool sweater she pulls tightly to her neck hiding what little skin shows and a shiny silver necklace lacks courage. The cold gray girl in the library tries secretly to hide her femininity. I want to tell her she is worthy of love. Does she know I’m watching? Does she think I’m a predator waiting to pounce? I want to scream, “I’m just a people-watchin’ poet”. One more question about the gray-wrapped girl: is her fear a reflection of her insecurities or of my gray mind and the ghosts that inhabit there?

Thanks Abdullah for stopping by and commenting. I wish more would comment even if it was bad at least I would know they had a reaction; that's why we do what we do. Peace.

Hello Phil, I like this one too. You seem to possess a very strong verve for these type of writes -- and you do them so well. You blend each stanza very well, and the end question in the final stanza makes the reader think. I like the verse very much: "I'm just a people-watchin' poet." All of us as poets should be committed observers of our fellow man. For me at the end of the day, Poetry reflects the very soul of mankind. SEVEN/FAV!! Cheers and Best, Gary

Thanks so much for your kind comments and I couldn't agree more about being keen observers of mankind. I'm very glad to see that my words have made a connection with you, we are all more alike than different. I've just posted a poem called 'Dance With Me' about what writing is to me. Think you'll like.
