Sequestered In the Summer Found In the Fall Dedicated To Those Who Fell
SEQUESTERED IN THE SUMMER FOUND IN THE FALL by phree!
Me and Mary once went out for a ride upon the sea
I recall swigging down tequila just Mary and me
Two huge engines made that boat seem to suggest that it could fly
Or is it Mary and I?
Theresa and I were catholic but God knew that we were sin
And so he put a curse on us and said “let the madness now begin”
Well I grew weaker and her army grew ever stronger
As I wondered if one would tire but they only fought longer
Theresa was a tomboy with an old straw hat and all
I’d miss her every summer and find her every fall
We’d fool around with each other in a field of feral corn
And making love from twilight to waking up naked in the morn
I was wondering recently where Mary ever went
And if she ever learned what the word “repent” really meant
I wondered what foreign lands Mary might have seen
or probably got herself pregnant at sixteen
This tale of three ladies is honest and real
As honest as that someone invented the wheel
And now inside me beats a heart forged of the purest of lead
Since I discovered both of my best friends were dead
So that’s why I pin a pink ribbon on my fine tailored shirt
Because Mary and Theresa taught me this disease is anything but inert
It travels too fast for surgeons and doctors to keep at bay
And that’s why I pray for a cure to breast cancer every single day
