Secrets of a Long Marriage
SECRETS OF A LONG MARRIAGE
dumb luck,
tops the list.
one is blind
one can’t hear
hubby hides in the cave
whilst wifey sips, the wine -
every other year
like vinegar
but the blushing bride
years, warm like brandy.
she keeps her mouth shut
like a lion’s cage,
when he places rings
upon her table -
she wipes them clean
sighs, rolls her eyes,
sips some more of the vine.
the secret’s in the divinity
of the vine,
the words that sing and heal,
hand in hand
they rise every Sunday
to live in harmony.
