Second Chances

Two days ago we saved all the worms On the way to and from school That were experiencing a struggle Stuck in the middle of pavements Running out of energy After a rainstorm We picked them up on a leaf And found them the nicest patches of soil On the route I never know if it's made a difference But this morning I walked along a different street And the two days ago worms that lived there Were all scattered and squashed It's not their fault We have pavements everywhere Save the worms

Fascinating verse, I didn't know that worms went to school. It just goes to show that life is very prone to risk, regardless of how much you study.

Haha! I feel this error could enable several spin offs. Is the truant worm safe already? Do I need new posters for my campaign? Is education or intervention the answer? Thank you - I'm glad this inspired such deep thoughts :)

We need to educate those worms. I am sure they can burrow in the earth beneath the pavement so they don't have to cross over above ground where is is unsafe. What a sweet person you are DD to pick the worms up and move them to a safe place. Lovely unique poem ! I have never read one quite like it. Cheers Wen

Haha it's a niche subject, you're right about that! I felt like my saving of the worms drew too much attention. I worry if I set up educational workshops for worms to attend, held in appropriate worm environments then I may need to move away :D Hopefully the saved ones are spreading the word or... Oh dear! I might be wreaking havoc with survival of the fittest! :)
