Season's End
Summer has come and gone.
After Labor Day, the season officially ends
Even a beach town has to move on.
Saying goodbye to visitors and friends.
Silence has enveloped the island.
Yesterday it was a loud noisy place.
You could hear the music of the band,
Didn't need to drive and look for a parking space.
The local stores have cut their hours.
They have all had their final sales.
Beach goers no longer using our hoses for showers.
As usual the no tresspassing sign fails.
"We finally have our island back",
I have heard a few neighbors say.
Life here is back on track,
As we settle into our day by day.
But it is a also a little bit sad.
Because when we bid the crowds goodbye,
We do the same to the beautiful summer that we had.
Watching natures's summer splendor die.
But we will remember, as we always do.
That even though it will not be until next year.
That we have another summer season to look forward to.
And we understand why all our visitors come here.
