Seahorses
The courtship of seahorses is a dance
as twisting tails are anchored by a strand.
A predawn prelude leading to romance,
sex role reversal we don’t understand.
How wise of them to choose to be in pairs,
protecting offspring like good parents should.
These tiny, fragile fry float smooth as air
while empty males swell up with their new brood.
You wonder why God made them so unique,
with milk producing hormones in the male.
It is mating with a new twist on physique
and the female saying when the ship will sail.
It's wise that pregnant males were made seahorses.
If men gave birth we'd hear their deafening noises.
