Seahorses The courtship of seahorses is a dance as twisting tails are anchored by a strand. A predawn prelude leading to romance, sex role reversal we don’t understand. How wise of them to choose to be in pairs, protecting offspring like good parents should. These tiny, fragile fry float smooth as air while empty males swell up with their new brood. You wonder why God made them so unique, with milk producing hormones in the male. It is mating with a new twist on physique and the female saying when the ship will sail. It's wise that pregnant males were made seahorses. If men gave birth we'd hear their deafening noises. 5/5/18

It's interesting that male seahorses give birth instead of the females. Your descriptions portray this well. Nice bit of humor at the end. Congratulations!

Such a lovely, well-written Sonnet that reveals some of the mysteries about these strange creatures, Sian. I adored your last two line! Congratulations on your fine placement in the contest. Hugs, Sandra

I learned this interesting fact about them long ago from TV as a child. I had forgotten it until I read and then it all came back about the males' unique job. Couldn't resist the comparison to us. Thanks and blessings Sandra.

They are so interesting of all sea life. At first I wasn't going to write about them but then they were a clincher.
