School Is Cancelled
A cold chill entered the house
Reminding me about mittens
I can only find three
They all fit the same hand.
Oatmeal does not warm me.
Coffee needs more sugar.
The dog will not go out.
It is too cold out there.
Wind chill eight degrees below zero.
I have no energy. My toes are freezing.
Suddenly my phone begins lighting up
With beeps – texts from my friends.
School is cancelled.
I am too excited to go back to bed.
It is a free day! I am suddenly energized
if not warm….
