Scars
My darling, your scars have always been beautiful
They tell a story and it's all your own
Each one is a part of you
And while they may not hurt so much anymore
No one said the pain would go away
And if no one can see your scars, my darling
If they are only visible to those you trust most
If they're the kind of scars that change how you think
They still tell a story, and it's all your own
If your scars bring back trauma
From the person who gave them
They tell a story of bravery, you found your way out
You're free now, you're safer, my darling
And I want to hear your story
If you have the courage and if you have the strength
I want to know all about your scars
Those you can point to, and those you can not
And trust me when I say
Things really will be okay
So, tell me your story, show me your scars
The ones you can point to and the ones we can't see
I can't wait to hear everything you tell me
I want to understand your story, your scars
So take a deep breath, I'm sitting right here
And whenever you're ready
You can show me your scars.
