Saudade

SAUDADE

His pulse quickens
brandy-like breath
pinkroot cheeks
wild rose eyes aflame
trancelike, he grasps the sides of his easy chair
and downs another gulp
he reaches for air
bare-naked air
with long brunette hair
he whispers for her
begging between walls of teeth
he sees her twirling laugh and castanets
clapping and howling
his palms hold the sides of his face, his ears
the warm parts of him jitter
in response, tears mock
her lashes bat against curvy brows
her long dress sweeps against the stage
he falls to his knees
screaming out her name
the silence of the room a net
that holds him prisoner
he falls at her feet
kisses the moonlit ghost
an untouchable feast
