Sand Dunes
I want to walk barefoot along an empty beach
the wash from the sea stroking my feet,
the slightest breeze taking the hard edge
off the summer sun.
But it’s low tide, and the waters have receded
far back, swallowed by the ocean.
Only the sand of the dunes dominate the shore,
and fish pens sticking out like crude fortresses.
I see eternity stretched out on barren sand
beyond the mist-shrouded dock.
Rushed time stands still, converges with distance
on some infinitesimal vanishing point.
Life’s noise is covered by all this silence,
my love boat waits to carry me off
to some magical land, bringing
the promise of sleep.
