Running the Rain

From the cabin porch I watch rain clouds tumble over mountain tops. In this valley you can smell the rain long before it falls. Yesterday on the rugged road to the river bridge I tried to outrun the rain on the ATV, while I sensed it looming over my shoulders. It’s a game I know I will lose but on the other side of that wooden bridge are warm blankets and another story to tell the sleepy cat that flops on a rug by the fire.
