Runaway Train

Seen with the naked eye we feel safe, she is up in the sky. An apparition appearing on time every 75 years, a sight sublime. Fireball with a tail blazing behind Calculated by the scientific mind. 1986, my generation held our breath as we watched her ravishing pass, once in a lifetime chance! Next in 2061 will Halley's Comet grace Earth with an anticipated pace- Ah! So we thought.. Hally has different plans for all of man... Tired of showing off her tail She decides to make a switch on the rail- As folks stand aghast, watching in awe This runaway train May be the end of us all! 5th place in Irma's "Runaway Train" contest. another really great idea for this contest. Geeez, I am reading so many cool entries, I don't think I can even compete in this one!! I believe hally's comet is the one that Mark Twain was born under and he said, "I was born under the comet and I will go out under the comet" and he DID. The next time she came around, over 70 years later I think, that was the night he died! Luv, andrea

Very creative interpretation of the "runaway train," Amy. Excellent poem. I missed Halley's Comet in 1986 so I guess I won't get another chance, at least in this lifetime. Well done! Love, Carolyn

'...tired of showing off her tail' a lovely phrase! Neat rhyming and flow... a charming piece, with a sting in the afore-mentioned tail!
