Ruler of the World
I shall rule
the world
(in all its height
and depth,
blemished
beauty, flawless
imperfection)
with deeds
never cruel,
as if a spark-
life beginning,
blazing conception,
cherished
but never to be
controlled.
It is a blessing endowed
not a possession.
For who can conquer
what was never meant
to gain?
Once a singular thought,
an atom born,
this world is
held in God's hand.
Neither simple
nor tame, He is the breath
of life.
I shall share
his creation -
all its wild beauty,
its truths
boiling
over (of water and light).
I shall be
bold in pursuit
of enduring forgiveness
eternal promises,
unconditional acceptance,
not impermanent measures
(like my beating
heart). I shall rule
by this constant
prayer: Lord,
teach me
to be wise,
let love guide
my steps into light
and carry me
through darkness.
Let oceans swell in dance,
let continents sing as one.
The sun shall rise
long after my demise,
and I shall be ever grateful
for heavenly countenance,
never truly ruling
this or any world.
