Rooted in Thought
"I shall be like a tree planted by the river ... " Psalm 1:3
Anchored for now but watching the drift
Bend down to reach what forever does shift
Content in a moment, but mind always whirring
Does watching the water incite a souls stirring
Edges are near but I'm rooted in place
Forevers are long if you didn't pick the place
Gone are the options that tempted me to grow
Have I obtained all the knowing that I'll ever know?
I wish for a chance to try different soil
Just check that I'm capable if I commit to the toil
Kinetics compel me, movement and grace
Lasting containment is more than I can face
My life is so planned with just seasonal change
Nothing fits here, this isn't my stage
Open the heavens, wash me away
Purge all my anguish, do it today!
Quit making out that everything is ok
Risk all for adventure, that's what I say
Suddenly it dawns on me, I don't have a choice
Tethered to the ground, given no voice
Understand need to get out of the confines of me
Valued are views that affirm and help free
Wise are my friends, they help me just be
Xylemically choking on this my last plea
Yesterdays and tomorrows I don't wish to see
Zone out and endure just being a tree
