Painting by Sandra M. Haight
Helianthus Annuus - Annual
A very different sunflower, named "Ring of Fire," is a five-inch
sunflower having bi-colored petals with dark red bases and golden
yellow tips surrounding a chocolate-brown center.
Oh, lovely burst of fire- your tongues aflame
with splashing brilliance from your fiery glow,
you dance with a full sense of motion that
entraps the mind in a hypnotic trance.
Or is the Sun that comes into my mind
with that gold halo of your fiery ring?
Your center, molten hot with solar flares
that rise- erupt and fly within my sight.
On closer look, so clearly see you now-
a beauty of our fields- a gem of Earth;
a gift of God’s creation that inspires-
artistic view of you- as fire and Sun.
