Reporting Live From the Soup, Arizona

Good evening, This is Stormy Surge, reporting to you live from Wickenburg. Where much controversy surrounds the new round-about, recently installed by D.O.T. and others with clout. No one in town that I spoke to agrees that it has helped out in these times of need. Not just the tax money that was spent on construction, but by diverting traffic from the downtown new rejuvenation. How long will it take? Some ask of the powers that be, To open their eyes and actually see. They didn't help Wickenburg and its citizens at all. They only helped the towns economy to further fall. No longer do folks on the way to Vegas drive through town. They take the new by-pass, so as not to slow down. The restaurants and the quaint western shops, see fewer and fewer vacationers stop. Now it seems safety is the new main concern. Due to drivers not yielding and taking their turn. With crossover traffic of three lanes needed to head to Phoenix from the by-pass now completed. The narrow lanes of the round-about cannot contain the eighteen wheelers and their long frames. Too sharp is the circle to navigate Trucks cross over lines, drivers see them too late. It was just last month that two trucks did collide. One tipped over into the other and then onto its side. Thankfully no one was injured this time. It could have been much worse, had a car been in line. But other injury accidents have occurred since completion. On average, one per week, by D.O.T. Accident Registrations. This is Stormy Surge in Wickenburg saying goodnight. As my crew and I navigate the roundabout and we drive into the night. Entry for Irma's contest...Reporting Live On The Soup Just a side note..This is a true account of the new round-about in town and its controversy. Placement: 10th place

Many congratulations Paula on your win in S.K.A.T.'s fine contest. Some town planners should be planted permanently on these roundabouts >> James

Stormy Surge makes a very good point. In efforts to "ease" traffic, road planners are taking tourists away from the hearts of many towns. This one opened my eyes, Paula, and really got me thinking. Best entry I've read for the contest! Love, Carolyn
