Refining Consciousness

 Instrumentalising mind, I rested thought,
employing it only when needed,
shifting to heart, I became self-taught,
gentling touch, voice of conscience heeded.

I have learnt overtime to refine
    my writing    clarifying    improving
for as a poet I will always elevate my words
                       as best I can
to blur the line of creativity and rule
oh, I have a consciousness of senses 
    when writing
an awareness and mindfulness
       I open the eyes of my mind
and slide from a dreamy state to reality
                           as a poet I have mastered the
instrumentation of writing 
                 it is a process self-taught
so that my poems have heart and soul
     a stepping-stone path    a road to follow
hopefully I employ an engaging way
to captivate readers     that embrace the art
    oh, the process is always shifting and rolling
it is never the same    ask any poet     
the journey is restless always wanting more
   but for this person the way has been life changing
for I now have a kindness, tenderness, and fragility
            a softness that I never had before
I heed the rules of poetry (sometimes)
   understand them and behold fine examples
of perfectly written poems
    but, have followed my own heart and poetic voice
and consciousness 
             and have written my way . . .
