Congrats on this winner. I enjoyed reading your work. My father wore his hair in a pompadour when he was a young man before baldness crept up. Sara

Beautiful poem. The sponsor is crazy not to allow illustration. Best for a win.

Evelyn, I have grown so dependent on the beautiful artwork that accompanies your poems that I was fairly shocked to read a haiku of yours without it... Not only that, but how can you expect mere men to know the difference between 'burgundy' and 'indigo' without a little help? lol. At any rate, straining the recesses of my dull skull, I think that indigo is violet and burgundy is dark red. Maybe... Not colorblind, but blind to color. :) gw

Thank you so much for your thoughts, Gershon. I'm delighted to learn that you also have an appreciation for the pictures that accompany my poems. When the poem is a contest entry, as this one is, I usually don't submit a photograph. This is because many contest rules specify 'no illustrations,' and this is a contest entry. I'm pleased that your confusion over the colors described are resolved. Glad we see eye to eye, Evelyn :D
