Reading Between the Lines

PART i Darkness locks out the Sun whose reflection, now beaten back by the hollows of the moon. In a pool of light your face swims as the sound of shattering stars break, the black metallic movement in the rippled surface below the shimmer, your eyes stare, vacant but are there dreams in lucid pupils of childhood games. On horseback perhaps, or were we watching? Dappled grey as they galloped, but no longer, passing time took them, the friends of a child, in hallowed ground they live vulnerable in their simplicity, while distant shadows of the landscape’s ascent soar with the inky ebony of infancy. You say nothing but I still ask what wanders through your mind as you lie naked, pure, flawless. I long to caress the contour of you skin though forbidden you have been named. Part ii Beyond arms reach you seem to be, behind translucent barricades made up of fabrics sewn from the threads of time. Fragmented beauty in a broken mirror, what hides in your luxurious depths? A breath gives life to a passing moment the whisper of a memory lost, to the pleasures and pains taking place in the here, the now, the nearly happening. What is occurring as you rest beyond the reach of my lingering touch where rivers course through green fields, wearing down stones as old as the world its self. How we move on and hide the past, like the mellow ripples disguise the currents that threaten to draw us down. Not you, the rest those who have tasted sin, shaded their purity with the darkness that locked out the Sun.
