Raspberry Bushes
Plain lucky we were
Kids growing up in proximity
To a raspberry garden
'Twas so short a season
We never balked at spending
Few hours of the day
To fill some baskets
And eat our fill along the way
Mom was petrified of snakes
Watch out! But we never saw any
Only pesky wasps but we avoided the nest
Besides it was better than
Crouching for strawberries
Or sharing blueberry fields
With the occasional bear
We lived in a land of abundance
We sure loved our summers
Up north in the land of plenty
Where there was enough for everyone
Hills bearing fruit
Tree covered lands
Fresh running waters
