Rainbow Promise

He has announced his arrival. She waits, Listening to the thunder cracking through the layers of air. Looking at the lightning, brightening and frightening the darkness away, Lapping up the sweet petrichor that comes her way. He gushes and rushes down to meet her. In warm welcome, she opens up to quench her unsatisfied thirst. The twain meet and a silence follows, As thick as the mist that envelops this inexplicable gloom. Emotions flood the watery lane... His constant showers drench her very soul... New life awakens as old lives are cleansed, refreshed. The earth has had her fill... For now... Drip... drip... drip... Slowly the gentleman rain recedes... He will come... yet again... to meet her... With this rainbow promise, they part... 06/08/16 2022 Poetry Marathon Qualifier's FINAL placement Poetry Contest Sponsor: Mark Toney

Jo, with your lovely personification of rain quenching the unsatisfied thirst, one can read this as a romantic exchange between two separated lovers. With your lines "New life awakens as old lives are cleansed, refreshed" and "rainbow promise" one may be tempted to interpret this as a spiritual allegory of a Christian awaiting the promised return of Christ to earth, using the poetic style from Song of Solomon. Either way, a delightful and inspiring read. Congrats on your win in the marathon! Blessings ~ John

Jo, what a romantic description of the rain cycle of life! You’ve even captured the “drip… drip… drip…” that continues after rain’s end, and the beautiful “rainbow promise.” This is one of your best, and a Fav Poem for me. Congratulations on your excellent win on Mile 26 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon. Your support of my contest has contributed to its success, and for that I am very grateful. Beautiful. Love the personification and the imagery of the "thunder cracking through the layers of air". And I just learned a new valuable word "sweet petrichor". Well captured delightful scene. A fave.
