Listen for me in the rain - The rhythm never changes, The music stays the same ... Listen for me in the rain - As constant as a sunrise, The solace for your pain ... If I'm gone and you're weary, If your tears are cried in vain, If you need to know I love you ... Throw wide your windows to the storm - And listen for me singing in the rain. ~ Listen for me in the rain - A soft and certain cadence, A temperate refrain ... Listen for me in the rain - The fluid flow of harmony, A pattern, unrestrained ... If I've left and you're hurting, If your heart is sore again, If you need to know I'm near you ... Just turn your face up to the sky - And listen for my voice within the rain. ~ Listen for me in the rain - A thrum of water, sweetened, As droplets fall arranged ... Listen for me in the rain - The gentle running meter, Its patter on the panes ... If you and I are parted, Your sorrows still remain, If you need to know I love you ... Just turn off all the sounds of life - And listen for my song inside the rain. ~ Listen for me in the rain - Nature's soothing lullaby, The atmospheric strain ... Listen for me in the rain - Warming heaven's teardrops, As swollen clouds complain ... If I'm no longer with you, If you need me to explain, If I need to reassure you ... Just remember all the life it brings - Sating rivers, lakes and springs, Remember you're my everything ... And listen for me singing In the rain ... The rain and I will always sing ... Your name. ~ 3rd Place ~ in the "Sunshine And Showers" Poetry Contest, Robert Haigh, Judge & Sponsor. ~ 8th Place ~ in the "Uplifting Poetry Contest", Laura Loo, Judge & Sponsor. ~ 4th Place ~ in the "Best Rhyming Poem May thru July Poetry Contest", John Hamilton, Judge & Sponsor. * Written for my children - I love you more than a thousand poems can convey ... you are my reason and my worth. *

Wow, Greg. I am surprised I had not seen this one yet. It's so song-like. Will you put it to music? It's smooth flowing and a very well deserved win! Congratulations.

Thank you very kindly, John, I may actually turn this into a song, (though I don't have room on my current project for another tune) ... so pleased you enjoyed it, my friend! :-)

This is so beautiful, Greg, but I think you should change the form to lyric because it would make such a great song. I also used the theme of singing in the rain. Anyway, congratulations on placing 3rd in the contest.

It's a joy to read and re-read this poem. The cadence, the flow, the refrain---everything seamlessly stitched. it's certainly a very well-deserved trophy win, Gregory! Best wishes, Gershon

Thank you so much, Janis - I wanted to give it a sing-songy quality, and the repeating phrase worked well, and kept that idea forefront. So pleased you enjoyed it, my friend! <3

This is such a great lyrical poem Greg I enjoy it every time I read it especially the refrain, it is so song like, the rhymes sometimes falter, but all in all a beauty of a write!

This is so wonderful in it's sadness, what a complete masterpiece of lyrical poetry this is. It would make a sad song with a few alterations, just love the refrain, I guess even poems can have a hook, your songwriting chops are shining through!

Thanks so much, John, that means a lot to me - your competency both as a songwriter and poet is something that I value highly when it comes to critique, so I am always highly appreciative of your comments. So happy you enjoyed this - it may be a song one day!

Oh, this poem melts me away. It is incredible Greg. I would so much like to hear you sing this, I think it is a song. It's imagery, gentle emotion, and palpable love in it is so well put into words. This is a gem, my friend.

Thank you, Darren - this is actually NOT a song, (despite the title and rhythm), but it may one day be, and I wrote it in that kind of tempo for that reason - thinking that I might make it into a song eventually. So happy you liked it, D! :-)
