Rain and Changing Times
Rain and Changing Times
Written: by Tom Wright
February 2015
In quietness draped, like a sheet,
I listen to the conversation of the rain,
While recalling childhood days, a leaking roof,
And pots and pans placed under the drips.
Breakfast was always oatmeal or gravy,
Not because it was healthy,
But because it was all we had;
Toast was rationed, not always enough sugar,
And sometimes no butter for the toast;
On occasion water gravy found its way to the table
For lack of canned milk;
I have felt life’s pangs and taken the bruises,
All the motivation needed to become a success.
And now stray thoughts come,
Reminding me; to let this part of my past remain buried,
And rejoice in the fact that my roof don’t leak.
Changing times should never be the problem,
Our problem is, that too many times, we remain the same.
