Radiance
it is said that the strongest memories
flow from our nose, that is,
the scent of past loved ones
linger with us
indefinitely---
certainly there are moments when
we’ve walked into a store that
bears a scent which we would not have
come into contact on our own &
from the shelves comes a scent
that pulls one back in time,
be it a cologne, a perfume, deodorant,
lotion, shampoo, or really anything,
from a muffin to a sweater fabric &
if one closes their eyes,
sometimes, whole scenes can be relived,
from the distorted retro-vision of our
own deluded minds,
as if so much of our past was
peachy,
as if it all really meant something
(and of course, who is going to question
it?)---
that said,
our unquestionable secret inner films
that flap against the metal wheel,
like some ignored ancient movie
projector,
they might not hold a candle to the
smiles remembered
from former lovers laughing in the midst
of our own most intimate moments,
glints in the eyes & the
showing of the dimples,
which only a chosen few get to
see,
whilst we wade through the nothingness,
the radiance of our flawed humanity
shines through the cracks in the windows
of our mind,
like headlights from the forest in the pitch
black dark.
