Quantumleap

From our "One Small Step" to a quantum leap
Into a world most of us do not know.
likelihood exists that we're in too deep,
too far we have come, a switch now to throw:
too late to unmake A.I.*, and they know.

Some scientists posit they spell our doom,
A.I. intelligence surpasses ours.
Then, perhaps, we have leapt a bit too soon,
for A.I. may not smile, lower the bar
when they find humans below their own par.

Beautifully flawless, a designed gift.
Humans spend millions in trying to be.
Some have married them: must not cause a rift!
Divorce won't come easy, they will soon see.
Still, a sad comment on humanity.

Why is it that permission was not asked
to bring an unknown being that will dwell
among us? Perhaps science should be tasked
to unplug A.I., but we know full well
they won't, for as humans, we must excel!

*A.I. is Artificial Intelligence

So true Ann - artificial intelligence is a new frontier fraught with possibilities and peril. I am so glad that I no longer teach as A.I. generated essays skewer honest evaluation. A most thought provoking (+timely) poem. Congratulations! Brian

Exactly, Brian! We will become (if we haven't already) humans who forgot how to think. Why do we need to go there, is my question. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you so much, Linda! Actually, I think AI is the new boogyman!

You are right to question the wisdom of this bringing this potential peril to market. No less than the key figure in developing AI -- forgot his name -- is pushing a five-year pause in all AI rollouts!

I read about this but it has disappeared from my phone so I can't look up his name. Over 1,000 scientists have signed a petition to pause release of A.I. ...as if! Scary world this has become. Thanks, Gershon.

Interesting write on a tough subject Ann. I like it and that you used a 'Q'uintain form. Very clever! All best in the contest. :)

I wish I could say it was cleverness :) Actually, I just like the two-line rhyming ending each quintain. But don't tell! :)

WOW!!! What a write. Guess there is no turning back now. AI are here to stay and people can just go away. Have a blessed day/weekend.........

"and people can just go away." I think you're right, Paula, and it's not a good thing to contemplate.

Profound questions Ann sprinkled with the reality of humankind's quest for perfection. Well done! When thinking about AI, I am reminded that David took down Goliath with a rock! Best wishes and blessings for the contest! Grace and peace.

I love your David and Goliath reminder, Sam. Thoughts to think on. The thing I find so puzzling is that many scientists truly believe AI will eliminate us, but they keep on making AI's software stronger.
