Notes About The Poem

Purple Pumpkins

I shed the shackles of societal scrutiny
Dared to color the Pumpkin purple
Finding that one must weigh such actions
On the scale of consequences

Developed a “cloak of invisibility”
Muted and masked my reality
Sharpened the spearhead of a N0. 2 pencil
Mounted up, lowered my shield, and fled

Leaving a trail of “double entendre”
A myriad of menacing metaphor
The howl of “Limerickian” lunacy
A sonorous tone of truth

Yet still I bear the shackle scars
Soft fears that linger in a being
Longing to dull my stinging spearhead
Erase the Pumpkin's purple smile

You are a poet with a unique style... profound and esoteric. I admire your talent. I can never write a poem of this style. Congratulations John on your POTD

Please don't "Erase the Pumpkin's purple smile". I simply love it, because *purple* is one of my favorite colors. Dare to be different, it's wonderful in every way. You've created a Masterpiece, John. Congratulations on Poem of the Day. Keep smiling, my dear friend. :) Hugs, Brandy

Love the imagery of a purple pumpkin, brave to see it a different way, even with the consequence - also congratulations on getting POTD~

I think I'm kind of with Daniel on this one, John. But I do rather like the imagery of "purple pumpkins". Congrats on POTD.

Just be yourself, all the other stuff is really just fluff. Nice introspective poetry, John. Thanks for sharing your thoughts through poetry. Bill

I’ll keep you supplied with lead if you keep writing with shackles off. A purple pumpkin need not wear a smile, but he must write. Sorry I missed this one but great to see it as potd!

Quite a masterpiece John...can well understand why a purple pumpkin would topple the world order, such subversion is unforgivable. Very clever..
