Prepared To Make Mistakes

We all have our views on the subject. A military officer
on hearing I was pregnant asked me to consider having
an abortion. I know a young woman, the doctors told
her mom, that with her condition, she needed to be aborted.
She was not and is perfect with a beautiful family.

PREPARED TO MAKE MISTAKES

You saw baby bouncing on your knee
and the gifts the neighbors bring.
Blue and pink were twins,
the sparkle in your eyes
at graduation
and surprise they were there for you
at your end of days.
You smiled
as each smoothed your hair,
kissed you on the cheek.
You’d surely die
then think,
regretting dying before you drink
of their beauty,
as they wait in utero
dreaming of a mom
who’d care for them
   as she discusses their fate
with a stethoscope clad
impartial lad,
who has no stake,
who’s prepared
to make mistakes
blue and pink balloons
could pop
on a pin drop,
with no bounce,
no degree,
added to a pile of debris.

Hi Kim congratulation on the honor bestowed on you of POTD - a much debated and heated topic of conversation and views that range from the ridiculous to the sensible and also sublime, very touching sentimental write my friend. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

This is a very hot topic. Congrats on the POTD and for telling a side that needs to be heard. I think where it all gets so complicated is the rare stuff like incest, rape and the mother's health at stake. there ought to be a law to deal with those things. People should just use common sense in the first place and there would never even have to be a need for commonplace abortions.

I read about the methods years ago. To stay oblivious to the facts, that is truly sad. I just read what a classmate had posted. The doctor wanted to abort her daughter’s, according to him, unviable pregnancy, and her husband stopped the doctor. The young man just graduated from high school. It scares me to think how many pregnancies have been aborted by doctor’s recommendation that was wrong!! A woman I know also had a doctor tell her mother to abort her. She is a truly remarkable woman with a beautiful family. God help us!

I missed seeing this great poem as POTD. This is an eye opener to all the irresponsible parents who brood on cruelly mutilating the fetus in the womb... Congratulations, Kim.

Congratulations on your POTD Kim. Just saw a movie today on the topic of abortion...a must see 'Happening' A French award-winning film. An adaptation of Annie Ernaux's eponymous novel, looking back on her experience with abortion when it was still illegal in France in the 1960s

Kim, I applaud your courage in addressing this thorny issue and I applaud the POTD you received. I applaud those women who have carried an unwanted baby to term and either chose to raise her child or offer it to another couple so they could raise a child they couldn't conceive. I believe children should have the right to choose as well.

God says in Exodus 20:13 & in Deuteronomy 5:17: "You shall not murder." Abortion is murder. Just from my observation and from in-depth study on this subject. I agree with Tommy's thought below, an unwanted child (due to the circumstances listed) can be adopted. I also agree with Victor. This is a touchy subject, but shouldn't be taken lightly. *Life is Precious* Your thoughts curl around my heart so deeply. Congratulations Kim, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Although I am pro-choice and a firm believer that a woman, with her doctor's advice, should make decisions regarding her body, congratulations on your P.O.T.D. Incidentally, I am also pro-life, believing that after a child is born they should have every provision to live a long, healthy, and productive life.

I am anti-abortion, unless the mother's life is in jeopardy. What baffles me is why this issue has become political. It's a moral and religious issue! Where is the constitutional separation of church and state? / Maurice

Congratulations on your POTD, Kim. I appreciate your thoughts on this sensitive subject and identify with the fact that free will comes with choices we each must make; some will bring life and joy and others death and sadness, but we do have free will as given to us by God. My opinion, we should honor the gifts we are given. There are answers to the sometimes-difficult decisions we have to make in life, and sources of wisdom and Truth that can show us ways to deal with them. Blessings, Bill
