Power in the Tongue Poetry Contest
Sponor- Karen Jones

Like heavy boots on empty streets His harsh words rang in my ears. Never has he been so very rude Why did he my heart pierce? The whole night I lay sleepless. How much of tears I had shed. Felt as if suddenly thrown on a desolate isle With pain, my face was swollen and red. Next morning seeing my puffed up face, He asked so very concerned, ‘Did you have your usual migraine? You look so tired and churned' He seems to have forgotten all that he said Gently applying balm on my forehead In a tone of assurance, he said, "Don't worry In no time all your pain will be fled" Know, our tongue has the power to heal or mar. Use it never as a sharp knife to tear. So, check out each word before you utter. Your words should always be words of love and care!

Rudeness seems to be a common occurrence. The gentile days of good manners is gone. I miss the past. Thank you for this wonderful poem.

Your poem offers a poignant reflection on the impact of words and the emotional damage that can be caused by thoughtless speech. It speaks to the vulnerability we experience when hurt by others, as well as the power of kindness and care in mending those wounds. Through vivid imagery and emotional depth, the poem conveys a vital lesson: words should be wielded with love and mindfulness, for they have the power to either hurt or heal. The closing lines leave the reader with a sense of responsibility, urging them to speak with compassion and consideration, recognizing the weight their words carry.

Hello Valsa, my very first poem, Words, Words, Words was inspired by an incident I witnessed a grownup cried as words were spoken without any care. You’re so right your last four lines says it all. Thank you for sharing it’s a great reminder for us all. Wishing you a fabulous new week ahead, my friend. Good luck with the contest.

Dear valsa, this is such a powerful take on the power of tongue, youv rhymed very well and written a poem that delivers a message to the readers, no matter what one does to correct the wrong, forgiveness we might give but it’s difficult to forget the things said to us that cut so deep, leaving us in so much pain, i felt this poem, and i admire the way you can write in so many different ways, on any theme and form, in such an effortless manner! I think should do well! Best wishes always. Sending you light always

Words are sharper than a sword and if we've nothing good to say then we should keep our tongues on a tight leash. Tom
