Poetic Intent
Maybe I don't want to read poetry
To find out everything has been said before
Just saw a title 'Object Permanence'
How can I not die a little
Knowing that has been taken from me
Because I now know it exists
I've not read it yet, I was too moved
Plus I have a mouthful of sub sandwich
I ate that sandwich in a way that didn't belong in public
That's almost what poetry is to me
My private sandwich eating
What happens is
I say "here is me"
With chipotle sauce that needs dabbing from my mouth
After every other bite
But clearly enjoying the sandwich
Which is spiced beyond comfort
Because experiences often are
I don't want to walk through
Like a ghost camouflaged as wallpaper
You might have to listen close
But I don't whisper
Give me no kind words
Grin ear to ear, high five me because you can't help it
Let's make things an event
