Poetic Intent

Maybe I don't want to read poetry To find out everything has been said before Just saw a title 'Object Permanence' How can I not die a little Knowing that has been taken from me Because I now know it exists I've not read it yet, I was too moved Plus I have a mouthful of sub sandwich I ate that sandwich in a way that didn't belong in public That's almost what poetry is to me My private sandwich eating What happens is I say "here is me" With chipotle sauce that needs dabbing from my mouth After every other bite But clearly enjoying the sandwich Which is spiced beyond comfort Because experiences often are I don't want to walk through Like a ghost camouflaged as wallpaper You might have to listen close But I don't whisper Give me no kind words Grin ear to ear, high five me because you can't help it Let's make things an event

a hint of humor as you take a metaphorical stab at poetry that's highfalutin and inaccessible. Poetry, like life, can be messy and imperfect...and in my mind, that's okay. Nicely done. Have a great evening, Sara

Thanks Sara, there's poetry that looks like poetry and there's poetry that's an experience. It's nice that that and everything in between has the space to exist. Thank you for your comment x

In the real time I was nearly painted orange - totally wasn't safe out with a messy sandwich :) there was a decent napkin on hand and I was offsetting by sophisticatedly writing poetry :)

Your poem is a delicious subversion of expectations. It's nixing the idea that poetry has to be highfalutin and inaccessible, instead embracing the messy, spicy, chipotle-stained realness of existence. You're not whispering, you're roaring with laughter, sauce dabbed and unabashed. This poem is a graffiti explosion across the soul, demanding attention with honesty. This is poetry not for consumption, but for co-creation, for messy celebration of the human experience. Bravo! - Daniel
