Hopscotch was the game we'd play
outside on a sunny day
On the pavement we'd display
chalked squares where we'd hop away.
On every school holiday
we’d be busy making hay
Whether sky was blue or grey
to us kids 'twas a heyday.
If it rained, to our dismay
that was it, no play today
Indoors we’d have had to stay
locked up in our hideaway.
Each day we would hope and pray
the sun would shine, come what may
Back then what would neighbours say
all that chalk of yesterday.
