Dear Sara: Thank you. The form of the rubai is Persian in origin and is a unique quatrain style where the 1st, 2nd and 4th lines contain an end-rhyme. The 3rd line has no end-rhyme. The beauty of this form in English is that I have adapted the Persian style of internal rhyme. You can see it in the fourth syllable of each line. This acts as an echo in the rise and fall of the breath as you read aloud. This is characteristic of Persian poetry as the Arabic words are very musical. In English, this is sometimes hard to achieve. Additionally, if you inspect closely, all my rubai quatrains are acrostic. The hint is in the title of the poem. In this case, PLAY can be read in the first letter of each line downwards. Enjoy! All my best to you then, Leon.
