Plans For Summer
Summer is coming up to the plate
Major League baseball is in full swing,
The new graduates we congratulate
We will soon say goodbye to spring.
Time for family reunions back home
The Fourth of July, a day to celebrate,
Tomorrow I shall write another poem
And tonight, the kids can stay up late.
The grass is growing higher each day
Birds are avoiding the unbearable heat
Shirtless boys gather in the field to play
While old tar is melting in the street.
My den is air-conditioned, comfy inside,
No need for me to go out-of-doors--
At my age oppressive heat is suicide
So, I will write poetry and drink my Coors.
