She changed the contours of who she was, The contours of her wild, She cleared the edge of her scenic coast, Her coast from deep inside, Thinking she’d be better unblemished and clean, Better as smooth and soft, By trying to be what others liked, Better at any cost, And her thoughts became someone else, Like a vague and empty stare, Deep down her warm and honest fun, Was replaced without a care, So now when she looks into herself, She sees a pseudo self-control, She sees the thoughts of other folks in her mind, Who’ve photo-shopped her soul.

It would be so disappointing to watch a "her" that you love become a "pseudo-self" This part really brought this idea home. "And her thoughts became someone else, " This is often the truth, sadly.
