Pet-Sit Panics

My mother owned a female Pug
She loved as though she were her child.
She was a perfect pet for Mom,
With disposition sweet and mild.

All of Mitzies pups were purebreds.
They brought good money when they sold.
Her sweet Pug was a great companion
And truly worth her weight in gold.

Mother had an older sister
Living several states away.
She wanted to go visit with her
And it would be a two week stay.

She asked if we would care for Mitzie.
I told her that of course we would.
We wanted her to have her visit
And would do anything we could.

Mitzie wasn't any trouble.
She minded better than the kids.
She knew her boundaries very well.
Avoided all of the forbids.

One day she wanted to go out
And someone let her out the door
With the thought she would come right back
As she had done all times before.

None of us saw that dog again,
Although we searched out little town.
The daughter who had let her out
Cried tears until we feared she'd drown.

We waited until Mom was home
With this sad tale we had to tell.
When she saw how penitent we were
My mama took it rather well.

We think some stranger chancing by
Absconded with this precious pet
And though it happened years ago
It is an unsolved mystery yet.

Hey Joyce.. to answer your question about JWN.. he lives in Jupiter, Florida.. and spends time on ESPN sports and is making a movie of his life right now.. and visits his two adopted daughters in San Diego California when he can..... he did not want to go into coaching a pro football team years ago when he had the opportunity.. too time consuming.. he is a Gemini like me so we cannot be constricted ... he plays lots of golf and enjoys life now.. good people he is .. fame never went to his head..

It sounds like Mitzie was a delightful dog. Too bad you weren't able to find her. At least your mom understood. This kind of thing happens a lot. Love, Carolyn

Oh how terrible ....this would be hard to ever forget! One never knows, sometimes when a pet wanders away. (we had that happen one time...like you said...it is still a mystery.

that is such a sad tale Joyce......from experience, it is more difficult when there is no closure for us and our pet friends. Very well written.
