Peanut Butter

For kids Nothing beats peanut butter So says Skippy So says Jiff It can nourish (Ah yes But it can kill) With kids can cause a large degree of happiness Nothing beats peanut butter Always a jar on the counter "Simply GREAT for you kids Sticks to the ribs!" says mom Can't you see that inevitable smear of jelly just above the lip While with agile tongue he slathers stuff around a quick-sand mouth It's on his chin On his shirt In the sink Spoons and knives alive with it On the floor On the rug He's left a brownish-red hand print on the front door Home from school It is the one thing he can count on What? Empty? In the cupboard Quick! There's more He's on a chair On tip of his toes Well! Whataya know COOKIES!

AHA, incredible, I located a poem I'd not seen yet. Hey, why do you say that peanut butter can kill ? Well, I guess with those that have allergies to peanuts. Is that what you meant? I really enjoyed how you had the kid coming homie looking for peanut butter and with it being out, he found cookies instead! Luv, Andrea

Great poem Daver, i can relate to this. My daughter loves the stuff, but her younger brother has a nut allergy, so we have to be so observant for him, an uncleaned knife etc, nice write, James

*SMILE* Awwww, this is adorable, and it's so true too. I've always been an addict to Peanut Butter and when it's gone I have GOT to go get somemore. But Cookies can appease me sometimes....or chocolate.

Got me smiling with this one. The informal style works for the message. Like the end. Thank you for sharing your poem with us and for taking time to comment on mine. Keep on writing! Karen

I lovce Reese's to pieces. Nothing like peanut butter. PB smidgeons are awesome. PB crackers are great with coca cola. What would Christmas cookies be without peanut butter. God Bless. Vince

LOL - I used to like Skippy. Rarely eat it nowadays - I prefer cookies though! I'm glad you like my pasta poem, Daver. I eat an awful lot of it, since it's cheap. But I've enjoyed it for at least 50 years - though actually, my mother's sauce ("gravy" we called it) always made me a bit sick - Way too much oil! Still I love pasta in all its forms! :-D Hugs! Awesome tribute to peanut butter (sad it has been tainted recently) as memories flourish while it still remains a vital part of our lives still making delicious, incomparable memories! Love your writes - thanks for your comment sweet man! Love, Shar

Daver, Thank you, thank you, for comments today. And, for taking me on-- putting me in touch with Stacey Haislop. It means a lot to hear from others. We write poems because we have to, (we're snared,) but if it isn't shared... I am on my way to Bosque Bello Cemetery to clean up in my family plot, scatter some winter rye seed, and visit with my guys: father, husband, two brothers. So beautiful when the rye grass comes up brilliant green among white gravestones. Nola

I am putting this on a poem page since I don't know how to reach you otherwise. I am online all morning, and just received an email that I had a comment on poetry soup. It was yours regarding my latest, What the Wind is Doing. I do thank you so much, and particularly this day, this moment, this hour of the clock when your remarks were so validating. Are you on Facebook? If you contact me there, I could send you a poetry book Love, You got it, from Nola

I am reading your poems Saturday 2/21 because of your intriguing comments on my own poems. Thanks for sharing. Makes you feel less isolated as a writer. Re peanut butter: Not buying any right now because of peanut scare, but I've always loved peanut butter, sliced banana & mayonnaise sandwiches. Maybe that's a Southern Gothic thing, or what is a SGT, is sliced banana sprinkled with peanuts on a lettuce leaf Nola P
