Paned Sorrow

Watching
                   as you turn and shape
                  into night
                at shadows edge
               a merging darkness
              polarized to diverge
                in nothingness
                  once there,
                   you are gone

                    A vapor of night
                    twisting
                     to changing will
                    morphing
                     into breathless pants
                    of screaming
                     howls
                      bereft of comfort

                    Sightless
                  and nameless
               in twilight’s hold
             miming a life,
               meted to be retired
                  licking the pane
                   that windows
                    to life
                   and finding
                  the saltiness
                    of sorrow
