Owl

The depth of darkest night houses my out spread wings. Ruffled feathers about my neck are fluttering. No villain can come within the range of my eye. No bat or hare can flee far enough once I spy. With a screech instilling fear, downward do I plunge, after running prey both too old and, oh so young… or with stealth and deadly silence will I ascend to bring a scavengers end to the rodent kings. Yet, will I lead you on to glory? Or claim to tell a different story? Ah yes, I may..as I am wise. Leave this life, release your ties! Athene awaits my return, Fly with me, see, learn!

Thank you Mrs Owl for taking us around on a night tour with you! You know what you're on about, but can't be otherwise being so wise! Congrats on a lovely win. // paul

And I decreased the length of line on purpose to make the reader feel like they were leaving with the owl to sit on Athene's shoulder ;)

Deb, this is GREAT. It was not for the bird contest, was it? I don't recall an owl was there but that is too bad if I'm right. This would have been perfect for it! I noticed an old comment of yours on one of my poems telling me to read "undignified death" you had written? I can't find it. I hope I had read that when you asked me to. LUv,Andrea
