Out My Window

Contest: Out My Window Sponsor Craig Cornish 8-22-23 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Out My Window Out of my window I see A long road stretch its legs, Strutting before me Into a place where the horizon Retreats into mirages of sand Where only arid grows, Face pressed up against oriels of spider’s webs As stone dust and brown Retreat into whirlpool pirouettes Nomadic harbingers In sky scraping cirrus blazing – Tumbling raucous and rolling rumbles Harvest sunlight into the scent of rain veils, Sun and storm casting kaleidoscopic chroma washes In epiphanies through revolving casements, Arching wonders reflect upon a windshield, A rainbow falls on rainbow chasers In a consummating cocoon of colors– Living tableau moving at highway speeds – Till sun and storm bid adieu closing my window.

Sam, You really put it all together here, so much about your longer thoughtful poems that hit home. You had me from the first two lines and never let up with the hard hitting metaphors.

Hi Craig, thank you so much! I am deeply grateful for your always thoughtful feedback! This was a delightful theme and I am so grateful for both the contest and your placement. It is based on a true story of a rainbow in the desert where we became part of the rainbow. Definitely a magical and mystical experience that I have been pondering for a long time. What a joy to be able to share that experience through your contest but, that being said, your contest themes are a poetic experience and a chance to go deeper into a new world! So grateful for your inspiration! Always an honor to be on the winners list for one of your contests! Sending you blessings!

Dearest Lasaad! Thank you so much. As long as I can't possibly paint this experience of becoming one with a rainbow, it is truly a blessing to be able to try and paint this miracle with words! So grateful to you for your beautiful note of congratulations and ever valued support - truly a special and treasured gift, my friend! Sending you blessings!

“A rainbow falls on rainbow chasers” whoa thats a very deep and intriguing line that really connected with me in such profound levels, the depth of it shows this is not just a poem with such brilliant imagery and descriptive language that would get the readers to visualize out your window but remind readers that we find beauty when we seek. Love this write my friend: Impeccable write really and i love the wordplay there too, flow of your word weaving is seamless. Congratulations on your win

Hi Inky! Many thanks and much gratitude for your lovely compliments and reactions to this poem. Yes, even in desert wilderness there is beauty. This is based on a true experience of becoming part of a rainbow as we drove across a desert one winter afternoon - in a gold colored car to boot! It was, and still is, a mystical experience that goes beyond a simple rainbow tumbling across the landscape drawing us into its covenant mystery. Have written several poems on this experience trying to express my continuing amazement. I think I almost have it right! I am so glad I got to share this magnificent experience with you! Sending late summer blessings of joy!

So beautiful and original is this living tableau! The rain and then the the rainbow 'in a consummating cocoon of colors'.... ! What beautiful presentation! The slow development from sky scrapping cirrus blazing to rolling rumbles and storm putting an end to the window scene. First rate poetry dear Sam.

Dearest Valsa, your messages are always a special treasure for me. Thank you so much for your support that continues to motivate and inspire me! This poem is based on an amazing experience of a rainbow in the desert seen through our car window as we traveled home from a winter vacation. I am still trying to put into words the wonder of these magic moments - watching the storm gather then seeing the rainbow, then watching it disappear. I am so glad that sequence came through to you! So grateful to share this with you! Blessings of rainbows to you dear friend!

"... oriels of spider webs." That's an original phrase that should be commended, as the rest of the lines from your window view. Nice writing, Sam.

Hi Lin! Thank you for your lovely commendations! This is based on a true story as my husband and I were driving through the desert, in a gold hued car, we watched the storm gather then became part of a rainbow! Truly an amazing experience. Thank for sharing in the wonder of those moments! It was fun to explore new insights "out my window" even if it was a car window! Blessings!
