Our Last Great Day Together
We stood next to rainbow waters
Not noticing their beauty for we were children
And rainbow waters were our normal
We had brought our nets
Because we had both broken our fishing poles
Sword fighting with them
Our mother had warned us
But we are six and eight
We wanted to sword fight that day
So here we are on the river bank
With nets, trying to get anything we can
Milly is trying to coax butterflies.
I was trying to get a frog,
But he outsmarted me.
We are laughing too loudly to catch fish anyway
This will be our last day together
For one of us will not be here after tomorrow.
I am glad we did not know.
