Ordinary Joe
When I heard the news I thought “Too Bad”
He never excelled at much throughout his life
Never hit a homerun or broke the finish line
No diplomas or degrees adorned his walls
Or important titles attached to his name
He was average looking man prematurely gray
A receding hairline and a few extra pounds
The beauty was he didn’t care just laughed it off
Accepting this was the way his fate unrolled
His music was always soft and near silent
And he never claimed to know it all
He would answer a simple “I don’t know”
Never extravagant in his tastes
His eyes revealed his disdain for that
Prudence was something unfamiliar to him
Though he wasted nothing over the years
Finally after a long quiet life amongst us
His time came to a quiet peaceful end
I’ll treasure the memory that spilled from hearts
Who came to pay their last respects to him was…
“He was a great friend”
