It was many years ago when I was young, 16 years old and I was expecting
a baby. My parents were horrified, I was frightend, grandma was full of love.
I ended up going to gran and gramps farm so I could be hidden away from my
family and the neighbours. I was well cared for, the baby grew within, and
I was brought to the hospital to deliver him. A lady came to my room to talk.
She told me about the adoption details and left papers for my parents to sign.
I really had no say in the matter. They brought the baby to me, but realizing
their mistake took him from my arms, but I never forgot his face. After that
I got on with my life. It was not until my parents were dead and gone and
the cemetery plot became mine that I asked for the names of people buried
there. A lady was listing the names and then said, baby boy. BABY BOY, my
mind screamed. I asked the date, it was the date my baby was born. So, he
was not adopted all those years ago but died. So,it was the open secret in
my family. He was the hidden secret, the missing piece to the puzzle of me.
I was never told. How many times could they have told me over the years ?
the day was breezy
when he was engraved in stone
a secret no more
