A former slave, Onesimus meets Paul Through him, meets Jesus and is born anew. By Christ, his sins forgiven one and all, Soon understands what God calls him to do. Philemon was his former master – spurned By this Onesimus who ran away. Now shocked to find his former slave returned; Fellow believers, both with debts to pay. Should he be punished? Should he be abhorred? Should he be taken back, again enslaved? Paul writes to his old friend: If Christ is Lord, Forgiveness is the sign that we are saved. As God gives freely; give to one another, Thus we ought willingly forgive our brother.

It's understandable if you missed Philemon on your read through the Bible... it's only 25 verses long. I like to think the parents of Onesimus named him for the poetic potential. I guess my next sonnet should include Bartholomew and Melchizedek! Thanks for the read, friend.
