One, Two, Three, Four We Don'T Want Your Stinkin' Wars

Johnny got his gun that May day sent by Nixon's cronies to betray unarmed souls to Kent State with rifles, bayonets, and thirteen students were gunned down on the grass knoll. With cries against Dick's bloody war young civilians burned and swore, "bring the warriors home." They had enough of gore and lies of Unconstitutional Wars and napalm bone. We've guns at home, guns abroad "What are we fighting for?" they cried out, and were killed Few even remember a name of four young people, Allison, Jeff, Sandra and Will. A Republic formed by revolt remembers well how to gain, get your gun my son for Big Brothers got his again and a bullets a very hard thing to outrun. *The Kent State Massacre - May 4, 1978 Never never forget your own government took rifle toting bayonette pointed troops onto college campuses and killed four unarmed students, youths and wounded more, paralyzing one. If they could do this.....

Reminds me of "Tin Soldiers and Nixon coming" an old song. Those kids were my age - so young.

I was a couple years out of college when they did this, a government which kills its own children in the school yard..one hates to think a country based on freedom of speech could do this

Debbie - Too much. The newsreels as I remember then and the civil rights fiascoes were my first memories of mass violence. I guess it was JFK started it for me. love you, Kathy

It will always be a blot on our nation's history, Debs, among many other things kept in the closets!!

A very infamous moment in US history. You have described the infamous incident better than Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young did in their song.

of course I know this Terry after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we were fools to think their own citizens would be exempt from their immoral behavior

Very strong poem/message, Debbie! You ask "If they could do this...", well they could and did... and in the meantime they've done even worse... Terry

Holy Crap! No, I did not know of this! We often hold the opinion, "Not here. Never here," when it comes to such things as this. Just a few years ago, a biracial couple in Nova Scotia awoke to find a burning cross on their front lawn! I cried. Are we regressing instead of progressing? Have we learned nothing? Your poem rocks, Sis. Napalm bone... that image is sharp and deep. xox Dee
